notebook on desk. Title: 25 affiliate programs to monetize back-to-school season

Disclosure: Some links in this post are affiliate links. I may get a commission but it's at no cost to you. Read my full disclosure here.

Back-to-School season is here and if you’re anything like me, you might be freaking right now. It’s time for money out the door and shrinking bank accounts. But, as I showed you in my last post, the back-to-school season doesn’t have to be a money sucker!

For today’s post, I’ve round up a few affiliate programs you can sign up for and promote right now to make extra money from the back-to-school season!

You’d be surprised how much people spend around this season! This study found that parents plan to spend over $100 on school supplies, plus $300+ in clothing and shoes, not counting on electronics. That’s a lot!

And things are shifting now towards online retailers, with 55% of people choosing online retailers for their back-to-school shopping! The potential is all there!

So, how can you – and affiliate marketer – capitalize on this season?

The answer is, you can focus your affiliate marketing efforts on brands, products and services that cater to parents, students and professionals!

But, before I get into marketing details, let’s back up a little bit in case affiliate marketing is new to you. (If you’re already an affiliate marketer you can scroll down a little bit)

    Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is when you promote someone else’s products or services and earn a commission (a cut) when someone either buys the product you mentioned or engages with it in some way (depending affiliate terms).

If this is news to you, or you’ve heard about affiliate marketing, but are unsure of how to go about it, I suggest you learn from one of the most successful people on this matter – Michelle from Making Sense of Cents.

Michelle has made over $50K in affiliate marketing alone and she has a really good course – Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing – that explains what it is, the basic pillars of affiliate marketing and how to use it on your blog or website.

Taking her course really made me more aware of the intricacies of affiliate marketing and how the whole process works. But, what I love the most about this course is that it gave me access to a community I can contribute to and learn from and it made me aware of tools and resources I didn’t know I could tap into!

Is Affiliate Marketing Only for Bloggers?

Many people often assume that you must be a blogger or have a website to earn money from affiliate marketing.

While having an affiliate website or a blog are certainly two prominent ways of doing it, you don’t need to go that way to make money with affiliate marketing.

I wrote a post specifically about this, where I explain how you can make money as an affiliate marketer on Pinterest. Click below to check it out now or pin it for later here.

Let’s move on to products to promote during this season, shall we?

    Product Ideas for Back-to-School/Work Season:

Relevant products to this season don’t always have to be backpacks and notebooks. There are many other related products you can monetize around back-to-school season.

The trick is to think about it as back-to-school and back-to-work season!

Here are some products that work well for this season:

    • Meal containers (for work and kids’ lunches)
    • Backpacks (think kids and university students)
    • Notebooks (not just for kids)
    • Printables (for business, for work, productivity, for moms and students)
    • Office supplies
    • Home office décor items
    • Computers and related electronics, etc.

As you can see, the list can go on and on. There is no shortage of products for back-to-school.

So, keeping this in mind, let’s look at the affiliate programs you should be promoting right now!

The Affiliate Networks I Use to Make Money Online:

For you to become an affiliate marketer for most of these programs, you will have to first sign up for their respective affiliate networks.

Affiliate networks are agencies that feature a myriad of affiliate programs from various brands and then connect them with affiliate marketers like you and me. These agencies handle all the affiliate marketing transactions for you and make it quite easy to apply and receive all your affiliate creative content.

My best performing affiliate networks are ShareASale and ShopStyle Collective, but here’s a list of affiliate networks you can join:

    • ShareASale – has a wide range of programs in various niches. Many brands have their affiliate programs with this network.
    • Awin – this is the parent company of ShareASale. Awin has a variety of programs as well but works a little differently in that it charges you a $5 application fee which you get credited back to you once accepted.
    • ShopStyle Collective – this network is fun and easy to use but is mostly focused on lifestyle and fashion influencers. While they allow non-bloggers to apply, their features are mostly geared towards social influencers with a blog. A major reason I’m still with them is that once you’re in you don’t need to apply to programs individually!
    • Pepper Jam – I use this affiliate network mostly for fashion and lifestyle programs as that’s what they have the most. I first signed up with this network very early in my affiliate marketing stages, so newbies are totally welcome here.

As you can see, there are many different programs you can benefit from during this back-to-school season.

I would keep in mind your own niche to pick programs that best match your audiences’ interests.

Bloggers and influencers in the parenting, kids and teaching niches would likely do better during this season, but even business and entrepreneurial niches can tap into the back-to-school season.

Just take me for example, I blog about making money online and yet I’m tapping into the back-to-season potential by creating a series of content around this season for affiliate marketers and other online entrepreneurs.

I’m also pinning a few business and mompreneurs planners on Pinterest because this is the perfect time to get your productivity on.

What about you? How can you – as an online entrepreneur at your specific stage – monetize the back-to-school season?
